The Yield Enhancement Network has won the Crop Science Forum & Awards 2019 in the best supporting role category. The Awards event, held 12 November 2019, recognises excellence in the field of crop protection and celebrates best-in-class scientific, technological and leadership initiatives throughout the global crop industry. Finalists, ranging from small start-ups to multinational corporations, have been chosen not only for their contributions to the arable industry but for their creativity and their innovation.
One of the reasons the YEN has been recognised is due to the many ways farmers can benefit from YEN participation. Richard Wainwright, a YEN farmer from North Yorkshire said he felt that he benefited by the massive amount of data he received about his crops showing why higher yields were not achieved. For him, the YEN reports highlighted where he could do something to improve his yield such as indicating where the crop was short of magnesium. The information provided by the YEN team helped his decision making to improve crop performance.
The open and collaborative nature of the YEN is a great advantage for all arable, oilseed, pulse and grass sectors growers. Not only does it encourage knowledge transfer amongst participants, this cooperation also means new innovative ways to boost crop yields without negatively impacting the environment can be discovered.
